Addendum To The ICON PAINT Manual
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
N.B. .... The IconPaint program is protected using the KeyDisk
Principle. Initially, BACKUP your Original Disk, if
you are unsure how to do this, read your User Guide.
After you have made the backup copy, ONLY INSERT
YOUR MASTER DISK WHEN ASKED TO DO SO, THEN REMOVE IT
AS SOON AS THE ICON PAINT EDITOR APPEARS.
1. MERGE ICON
~~~~~~~~~~
This Public Domain program was unfortunately written for the standard
AMIGA WorkBench and icons created with it are not compatible with a
16 Colour WorkBench, however, 2, 4 & 8 colours are alright.
The symptoms that occur when one of these icons is activated are
that, you will not be able to resize or open a window and secondly,
if you use the 'AVAIL' command you will notice that you have little
or no 'CHIP' Memory. This will not happen with either the 2, 4 or 8
colour WorkBench, the computer may also 'CRASH'.
To stop the problem, simply load the icon into the ICON PAINT editor
and then save it, this will cure the symptoms described above.
2. GRAPHICS PROGRAMS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The majority of graphics programs rely on 'CHIP' memory for the
number of colours available, it is therefore advisable to use either
of the 'C2' or 'C4' commands before running the particular program.
3. NUMBER OF ICONS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When using a 16 colour WorkBench do not have too many large icons on
screen at once, as each icon uses memory and there is a limit! A500
users with only 512kB RAM, be careful about the number of icons on
the screen, when entering IconPaint, as this number, if too large,
will result in IconPaint no performing correctly.
4. 'C#' ICONS
~~~~~~~~~~
These have been included to allow you to change the number of colours
from the WorkBench environment. They default to the project SYS:C/C#.
5. STARTUP-SEQUENCE
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To run a 16 colour workbench on any disk first use the MOVE16 command
(See Manual). Once this has been done amend the startup-sequence of
the new disk so that the last four lines of the file look similar to:
LOADWB
C16
SETCOL
ENDCLI >NIL:
As long as the disk is 'INSTALLED', when booted it will start with a
16 colour workbench.
If you have more than 512kB memory, you may like to Ed the Startup-
Sequence, to remove the semi-colons where annotated. This will give
you a 16 Colour 'RAM: Icon' and a CLI open on the WorkBench.
